This is the place for Americanized ramen that appeals to the younger crowd. The decor is American hipster and traditional Japanese at the same time. I ordered a Mi-So-Not with a corn bomb. The broth was very delicious and flavorful. The noodles are not my go-to for ramen, but they were still good. Adding the $1.50 corn bomb gave it a much creamier flavor. It's a ball of butter with some corn in it. The ramen portion is pretty small for the price, I wasn't full after it, so I would recommend ordering an appetizer. We ordered before sitting, similar to a fast food place. It was easy to order at the counter and they brought the food to our table very quickly. Overall a nice casual spot for a quick ramen lunch with friends, but not if you're seeking larger portions and traditional ramen.
I had a great meal at Tatsu-Ya and left pretty impressed! I ordered the Gyoza and THE OG-Tonkotsu, and both were on point. Gyoza: really nice crispiness on the edge, juicy inside, which is how it's supposed to be. THE OG: The broth was rich and creamy with tender pork and a perfect cook on the noodles. Toppings added great texture and flavor: wood ear mushrooms, soft-boiled egg. my only wish? A little more spice, kick it up a notch. That's just me. Inside, it was always vibrant and fun, probably a bit too loud inside to comfortably have conversations. Service was friendly; it took a bit longer for my food than I thought, considering the crowd at the time. Overall, it was a good ramen shop, and I would not mind making another visit here someday to sample other dishes. Tatsu-Ya really nailed comfort flavors in all ways.
When Houston temps drop to below 50 degrees, I instantly start craving ramen. I was lucky enough to find this cute little corner restaurant in my drive today and walked in with little expectations since this was an unplanned midday stop. Walking in the restaurant, I was at first discouraged by the line to order past 1:30pm in the afternoon, but it went relatively fast before I can finish reading the menu and decide on the items. Being my first time there, I went for the classic OG tonkotsu ramen and the karaage chicken. Both were served within minutes of ordering once I was seated, and it made for a perfect cold weather meal! If you think the outside of the restaurant is adorable, wait till you see the interior design and the thoughtful placement of water stations, eating utensils, etc. Also, if you're looking for a place where you can dine comfortably by yourself without feeling awkward, this is the spot! I will absolutely be returning again in the near future. Pro tip: if you're wanting to try multiple items with a friend, try ordering one bowl of ramen with added noodles and then a couple sides. You can ask for extra eating bowls to split the food.
I had ordered from here before but had never actually gone in and sat down. I am glad I did! I came with some friends on a Friday night and was able to find a parking spot (after a little wait) right there on their lot. As soon as you walk in, you place your order and then find a seat. I decided to try something different so chose the "MI-SO-NOT" (Tonkotsu) ramen which had egg, pork bone broth, miso blend, goma pork, ajitama egg, scallion, napa cabbage, bean sprout, corn and sesame seeds. We also tried the "KOROKKAAAYYY" (Japanese croquette, panko, potato, chashu, house katsu sauce), the Gyoza (pork dumplings with soy vinegar) and the "Karaage" (Japanese-style chicken, twice-fried served with a side of garlic mayo and chili sauce). The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and you really feel like you are in Asia. Service was also great! Everyone was really nice and attentive.
Still one of my favorite ramen spots in Houston. Got the Miso hot broth w/ fire in the bowl bomb! Super delicious and thick broth! Must try with the bomb. Little on the spicier end so for those that don't like things too spicy, I'd definitely skip the bomb. The sweet and sour yodas are my favorite hands down. Never fails to disappoint. You must get the yodas!
Was introduced to this place by family when we were visiting Texas from out of town...this is seriously one of the best ramen places we've had in the US (only other one I've found similar to this was in Detroit). I'm usually one who eats all the noodles and leaves half the broth in my bowl...here I actually finished all of my broth! It's that good. My picky 4 year old also absolutely loved it and actually said "these noodles are soooooo so so so good!! ". Would definitely come here every time we're in town :)
I don't typically like ramen but I really love the Tsukemen. It is incredibly flavorful and the noodles are perfectly chewy with a good bite. I would come back again specifically for this dish.
I love this place so much for a quick, delicious bowl of ramen. Super chill vibes. I tend to stick to mi-so-hot or the dipping noodles because they are both so good. I do wish there was more room to customize your bowl. Add ons can get pricey. Parking lot but can sometimes be pretty full. Can try street parking as an alternative.
Ordered the Sho-Yu with spice bomb added on the side and it hit the spot. Service was spot on and the ambiance was tranquil even though it was busy. The restrooms and restaurant were clean. Paired my ramen with Lychee Ramune which is like a Japanese (I believe?) sparkling water, it's the best flavor in my opinion. I was so sad when I had to move away from Austin's location, until I discovered one in Houston. Worth giving this place a shot!
